Last Monday my Mac Pro just crashed and kept rebooting.. After I examine everything, I concluded that my video card GeForce 8800 is dead…too bad, but at least it lasted for more than 4 years…
The problem is that my Mac Pro is 2008 early model 3,1… And actually I have no idea where to get another graphic card in Hong Kong.. I called apple store and hope they will have it at store…and they asked me to bring Mac Pro to check up first because they don’t sell graphic card separately even though online store has it.. And only choice at online store is ATI Radeon 5870.
it said it only support 2009/2010 on store page… But good that I found on a comment said that it also works in 2008 model.. Yea! I ordered it right away…
And yea, surprisingly, it has delivered today which I thought I won’t be able to play with my Mac Pro til next week!
And boom! It works! the graphic card is quiet and not that hard to install! Nice!
Although one thing probably should remind you if you also have 3,1 Mac Pro and would like to upgrade to ATI Radeon 5870..The card is pretty long that you may find a hard time to install on some PCIe slot other than slot 1. Other than that, will report if I find any problem later. 🙂
